4. Preparation Blueprint: Strategy & Timeline

Phase-by-phase roadmap, daily study schedule, topper golden rules, and fatal pitfalls to avoid

Topper Strategic Approach

SBI PO does NOT have sectional cutoffs in Prelims or Mains, allowing you to leverage your strongest areas to maximize aggregate marks. However, the questions in Mains are innovative and multi-concept. Focus heavily on General Awareness (60 marks) and Descriptive Typing (50 marks) — together they form 110 out of 250 marks and can guarantee selection even if Quant is exceptionally tough.

08:00 PM – 09:00 PMDescriptive Writing (Typing 1 Essay + 1 Letter on PC)

Toppers' Golden Rules

  • •No Sectional Cutoffs: Use this to your advantage. If Quant is brutal, maximize English and GA.
  • •General Awareness is 60 marks: The easiest marks in the entire exam if studied systematically for 6 months.
  • •Descriptive paper is 50 marks: 20% of your Mains score is typed in 30 minutes. Practice typing on a physical keyboard!

Fatal Mistakes to Avoid

  • •Panic in Mains Quant: Remember that Mains Quant cutoffs are often below 10 marks out of 50; solving just 8-10 correct questions gives a top percentile.
  • •Neglecting Group Exercise: GD/GE carries 20 marks and tests consensus and active listening, not aggressive shouting.
