4. Preparation Blueprint: Strategy & Timeline

Phase-by-phase roadmap, daily study schedule, topper golden rules, and fatal pitfalls to avoid

Candidates must score heavily in Karnataka history (Vijayanagara, Wodeyars, Basaveshwara), regional geography, and master structured descriptive answer writing with Karnataka-specific administrative case studies.

  • •Both Prelims papers count: Scoring high in both Paper 1 and Paper 2 combined is necessary for Mains entry.
  • •Passing qualifying Kannada (35% marks) is mandatory; non-Kannadigas must practice translation and precis writing diligently.
  • •Section 2 of the Essay paper carries 125 marks dedicated to Karnataka state issues: Prepare in-depth notes on state challenges.

Fatal Mistakes to Avoid

  • •Neglecting the qualifying Kannada Language paper; failing Kannada leads to immediate disqualification.
  • •Treating CSAT in Paper 2 as qualifying (like UPSC); in KPSC, Paper 2 marks are added to Paper 1!
  • •Omitting Karnataka-specific historical and geographical references in GS-1 and GS-2.
  • •Making too many wild guesses in Prelims leading to heavy negative marking deduction.
